It is our sad duty to report the passing of Brian
Cooper during the early hours of Sunday 23rd May.
Brian had been feeling unwell since a match the previous week, although his doctor hadn't detected any serious problems, and his death was completely unexpected. As yet we have no details of the cause. Brian has done sterling work for table tennis in the area for many years and there cannot be a player who isn't well acquainted with him. His cheerful and philosophical manner and many anecdotes will be sorely missed. Our sincere condolences go his wife Maureen and his family. The funeral was held on Thursday 3rd June at 10am at Basildon Crematorium, Bowers Gifford, followed by drinks and food at the Carpenters Arms, Rayleigh. Any donations should be given to the Ron Pickering Memorial fund, which assists young athletes in need of support. More details can be found at http://www.justgiving.com/rpmf. |

| Congratulations to LEGRA, who are clear
winners of the Premier Division, and to runners-up HULLBRIDGE A. After some fiercely fought matches, SELBOURNE A just secure the Division One title ahead of SELEX B, with Springhouse B squeezed into third place two points behind. In Division Two, the strong KINGSWOOD C squad are worthy winners, with SELBOURNE B coming a creditable second. Division Three saw GRAYS and HOSPITAL B level on points and playing each other to decide the outcome of the division. With a 6-3 victory Grays clinched the title. A convincing 5-2 win by CANVEY B over Kingswood D means they are the Handicup Cup winners. HULLBRIDGE B secure the Premier Division Cup with a 7-1 win against Billericay A. SPRINGHOUSE B beat Billericay B 5-3 to win the Division One KO Cup. KINGSWOOD C complete the double with a 7-1 victory over Springhouse D in the Div 2 Cup. Likewise GRAYS complete the double with a 5-3 win over Kingswood D in the Div 3 Cup. BASILDON SUPERVETS team win the Interleague Supervets Division 2 title. |
